About Us

For more than 150 years, Saint Michaels lodge has been a place where friendship, integrity, companionship and charitable values come together. We continue to uphold both the traditions of Freemasonry and our local community while embracing the needs of today’s ever changing world.
Whether you are a Freemason seeking information, a visitor interested in our unique history, artifacts or ritual, or someone curious about what Freemasonry is and how it supports local good causes, we invite you to explore our website and learn more about our work, our heritage, and our commitment to fellowship and service of the community.
We meet formally nine times per year, on the second Wednesday of the month with a break over summer but you will also find us together informally most Mondays throughout the year as well as at our many social events which can be found listed on our calendar.
Lodge History
Saint Michael’s Lodge No. 1273 has been an established part of the life of Sittingbourne, Kent, since its foundation in 1869. Formed during the Victorian era, the lodge emerged at a time of great national confidence and transformation. Britain was at the height of the Industrial Revolution, railways were expanding across the country and in Sittingbourne in
particular Paper Mills and Brickworks blossomed becoming a backbone of the local industry and workforce which even today members of the lodge still have personal & familial connections to.
Although to many, life in 1869 may seem like another world entirely, the very same year that Saint Michaels Lodge was founded major global events in Engineering, Science, Society and Popular Culture were happening that still have significant relevance today…

Lasting Friendships

Proud of our charitable achievements
Our members are very proud of their contribution to charity. Our fundraising through lodge raffles, social events and the generosity of individual members has earned us recognition by the Masonic Charitable Foundation.
Supporting our local community
When our members hear about a local good cause seeking help we do our best to support in whatever way we can.

Meet some of our members

Danny Shell
I was introduced to freemasonry when I lived in London, and was initiated
into the Savoy Lodge of which I eventually became Master in 1993, I left in
1995 when I moved to Kent.
A chance meeting with the Secretary of St Michael’s led to an invite as a
guest in 2022 and I became a joining member in that same year.
That Secretary is now our Master and I am now the lodge secretary!
So from that fortuitous meeting, my masonic career was restarted after a
gap of some 27 years.

David Mantle
When other organizations I was part of stopped, Freemasonry helped fill
that void. It gave me focus, strengthened my social and personal skills, and
showed me how modern approaches can exist alongside traditional values.
Best of all, I found fun, trust, and genuine friendship that will last a lifetime.

Sean Dania
I joined St Michael’s Lodge in Sittingbourne for friendship, purpose, and personal growth. From the very beginning, I found
a brotherhood rooted in knowledge, charity, and genuine care for one
another.
The lodge has given me lasting friendships, a deeper commitment to
service, and a constant drive for self-improvement. It is a place where
values are lived, not just spoken, and where I truly feel at home.
